The road to Mardin. The beauty of Mesopotamia and amazing landscapes.
Early in the morning we set off. Our company pursued two
goals: to spend an excellent weekend and to check how things are with the
hotel, which is being built in Mardin. From Gaziantep to Mardin about 340 km,
after calculating our route, we decided that we will have time to visit several
small towns along the way.
Mesopotamia and what do we know? The land between the
valleys of the two famous rivers Tigris and Euphrates. These are the great
plains with history, wars, downs and conquests. Once upon a time there existed
such civilizations as Sumer, Arcad, Babylonia and Assyria.
The Sumerians founded the first city-states - Eridu,
Uruk, Ur, Lagash, in every village, in Mesopotamia, to worship their gods.
Writing was created, inherited later by all Middle Eastern peoples. Cuneiform
texts brought to us the laws, knowledge and beliefs of the Sumerians, their
mythological legends. Our contemporaries can only admire the monuments of
architecture of the past.
One of such places: Dara - an important strategic
fortress, was built in 506-507 years. Anastasia was on the border between
Byzantium and Iran. Now the ruins of the ancient city are protected by UNESCO.
Soon the underground part of the city will open, with underground waters.
In 5 minutes from the ruins of the village with the
locals, we met a crowd of kids. I can not but note the fact that the children
are dressed like street children and they need humanitarian help, I hope that
one of the UN organizations will hear my words and send the children kits with
the necessary goods.
I remember one girl who ran up to us with her little
sister. As I understand they will make a living by weaving wreaths and offer
them to passing travelers. Also, the girl offered her guide services, for 10
minutes she told us the history of the city. It was evident how she tried and
at night she taught this text in order to earn a living in the future. I
noticed that she was the main one, so her sister stood on the side with wreaths
in her hands and waited for the end of the story. You know, you do not need to
understand their language to see their efforts and the wishes of a normal
child's life. After finishing her historical report, the girl handed me a
wreath. This was our first stop, which gave me a lot of mixed emotions:
surprise from the surviving monuments of history and to the sadness of
children's eyes.
The road on the way to Mardin has opened for us an
amazing place- Beyaz Su, that in the translation of Turkish means white water.
In three minutes from the border with Syria, the War, Turkey's political games
towards the Kurdish people plus military actions, devastated Beyaz Su. The
territory is now guarded by the military and we were met at the entrance to the
village with assault rifles and tanks. On our luck we decided to find a place
where we could have a snack. Nature seemed to draw a mountain chain, between
which flows a gurgling river. Previously, these places rustled with feasts,
along the mouth of the river about 20 fish restaurants, now we found only one
open place. On the bank of the river, we treated ourselves to local fish, the
smell of a fire and the sound of a river, calmed and betrayed our strength.
Alone with your thoughts, enjoying the nature and sweet scent of spring ... a
fabulous, hidden place of hubbub noisy - love can arise here. So untouched and
calm was the bank of the river and on the contrast the mountain river gurgled
its songs, not known to random travelers. Here and again on the road, what kind
of silence around, I can not describe it with words alone, it's worth seeing.
The land of Mesopotamia is mystical. As it lacks in noisy mega-cities.
And in connection with the military situation in Syria,
it was exciting that you could reach out to the border with your hand. The sun
was already setting, but we had enough time for the last stop-Mediyat.
It is a
city in the province of Mardin, where in peace and peace three religions
coexist: Islam, Christianity and Yezidism. In 2000 the city was completely
restored and restored. Unfortunately, we did not have enough time in the city.
But if there is an opportunity in the future, I will definitely walk along the
quiet, narrow, stone streets.
